How to Lead a Session
To lead a SPRING Forward Session, please email info@springforwardgirls.com to connect with our team!
About

The goal of SPRING Forward’s educational program is to facilitate discussion regarding eating, exercise and body image amongst adolescent female athletes. As a session leader, your role will largely involve guiding conversation amongst participants as well as teaching of certain relevant topics. The session is expected to last approximately 2 hours.
Ground Rules
We encourage athletes to participate to whatever extent they feel comfortable - recognizing that for certain athletes listening to the conversations being discussed is a big step. In this sense, we discourage session leaders from selecting athletes to answer particular questions as it is difficult to discern an athlete’s relationship with eating, exercise, and body image prior to a session. Athletes may temporarily or permanently leave the session at any time.
Conversations regarding lessons learned from the session can be shared with others outside the session; however, if athletes choose to share particular personal stories, these need to remain confidential. Athletes must agree to respect confidentiality prior to participating in the session. Breaks in confidentiality should be passed along to academic staff (if the session is being completed for a school team) and athletic staff for appropriate resolution.
We recommend having a list of local mental health resources available for athletes prior to completion of the session for those interested in connecting with a mental health provider. It is important to recognize that while physical and mental health is discussed in the session, this does not substitute for a formal evaluation with a healthcare professional. Athletes identified as at-risk should seek out care with an appropriate healthcare professional.
